Fund Food, Care &
Spay/Neuter

The average cost of food and basic care is about $40-$60 USD/month, and $480 - $720 USD/year depending on the animal.

Spay or neuter is about $30 USD per animal. Every animal at the Refugio is spayed or neutered, but we no longer offer recurring free public spay & neuter clinics (we need funds to maintain the many animals already in our care).

Perhaps you have connected with an animal that is in dire circumstances and needs extensive veterinarian care, you can also donate directly to that animal's care.

Flight Angels

A Refugio dog or cat's best chance for a forever home might be in the U.S. or Canada. We do international adoptions too!

We need "flight angel" volunteers to fly with the adopted animal on your outbound flight.  At your destination, you will be met with the friend's new family.  Hugs, happy tears, and animal kisses follow.

Costs for animal accompaniment are paid by the animal's new forever home, and the Refugio takes care of all required paperwork, crates and vaccinations.

Adopt

There are an average of 50 dogs and 20 cats waiting for forever homes.  If one of those might be yours, come visit to make a connection yourself.

Adoption fees vary from minimal $ to a bit more, depending on the animal's care and travel process. Average cost for the airline is $125 USD per pet, and you'll need a pet carrier.  We are ready with vaccination records and other paperwork.  And your friend is definitely ready!

If you aren't in the area, contact us via email or phone and tell us about the kind of animal (size, age, disposition, energy level, socialization, care needs, etc.) that would best love to be a part of your home, and we will know just who to recommend!

Annual Fundraiser

Once a year, in the 3rd week of January, the Refugio holds their annual fundraiser which includes a silent auction, dinner and music.

We would love for you to join us for this incredible event where many gather, donate auction items, and raise needed funds for the animals at the Refugio.  It's a great place to meet like-minded people, support animals in need, and have fun!

Find out about this year's event by going to our Facebook page for updates.

Walks & Cuddles

The animals LOVE visitors, so we are open to the public (during the tourist season) on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am-11am.

When you arrive, you'll find lots of dogs already out of their kennels (but tied up).  Grab a leash, choose your partner and promenade in a large secure area. OR maybe you want to sit in the puppy or juvenile enclosure - socializing, loving on and playing with a happy little one.

And the cats would LOVE to have some attention - even if at first look they seem to care less.  Pick one that's inside the cat room (because they like to be) or one that's lazing around on an outdoor wall.  If you wait long enough, one of them will surely give you the look that you've caught their fancy.
