Puppies
Puppies often enter the Refugio when they are but days old. For example, on Christmas of 2023, a mother dog and 6 puppies were dropped off at our gate.

Puppies have also been found on the side of a highway next to a street dog mother or father who had been run over.

Many dogs here have lived their whole lives waiting for adoption since they were babies.
Juveniles
Our juvenile dogs are less than 1 year old but are full grown with unique personalities.

Since many have been at the Refugio most of their lives, they are very well socialized with other animals and eager to show you how to be young again!
Small Adults
We seem to always have a variety of small dogs that are easy to travel with. They are mighty and full of love.

For example, one of our small dogs was the victim of a large rodent attack. His heart is way bigger than his scars or size.

These small dogs would be thrilled to adventure the world in your basket!
Midsize Adults
Middle sized dogs often get overlooked (kind of like middle children).

But boy are they ever adaptable, smart, of course adorable, and ready to be someone's whole world.

There is nothing they can't do!
Large Adults
Several of the dogs at the Refugio are large, which isn't always common here. Most of these dogs grew up at the Refugio, with no shortage of food and water.

They especially have the look that says, "I will do anything for you". Over the years, some have been fortunate to have Flight Angels willing to help them get to their forever home.
Senior Dogs
Since the Refugio is only 12 years old, most of our geriatric dogs came to us as injured animals that required emergency and expensive veterinarian care.

For example, Bernard (pictured) was run over by a car and sustained major hip injuries. He represents all our older dogs, who adore acts of kindness.
Cats
We have cats that like to stay inside, and cats that really like to be outdoors.

Our cat city includes about every color, personality, and size you could imagine!

They often get passed by when people come up to see the dogs. Oh, what they would do to have a friend to themselves!
